Foundations for Counseling Ministry School (FCM)

Prerequisite: Discipleship Training School (DTS) or Crossroads DTS (CDTS)
The Foundations for Counseling Ministry School is a first-level counselling course designed to acquire basic counseling skills and helps us understand why we do what we do. As students process their own personal wholeness and healing story they will gain the skills to help others take that journey with God as well. Students will participate in 12 weeks of classroom learning followed by 8-12 weeks of practical application on outreach.

Goals
This school has three primary goals:
1. Personal Development
Students will grow in healthy relationships and self-awareness. Those two things are key for your journey of being able to help others. They will learn an experiential understanding of Grace: developing a personal revelation of of the reality of God’s grace and the ability to extend that grace to others. Healthy relationships and developing a mature Christian Identity are emphasized.
2. Skill Development
Students will learn to express warmth, respect and empathy in inter-personal relationships; develop active listening skills; use the tool of Biblical belief renewal for personal development and applying it to others; praying for healing in a variety of situations by inviting Jesus’ presence; exercise influence through intercession.
3. Cognitive (Mind) Development
Students will learn the definition of counseling; God’s character in relation to counseling; the work of the cross and the work of the Holy Spirit in bringing redemption and forgiveness; the believers identity in Christ; repentance and forgiveness and their relation to maturity; the specific, unique gifting of each individual.
